We do not permit outside firewood in the park. This includes lumber cut offs and construction wood. Please read an important section online at www.inspection.gc.ca or our firewood page.
No but they are needed for the long weekends. Theses should be made well in advance. A reservation is the best way to secure a site, and avoid disappointment.
Send us an email or fill out our preregistration page or just give us a call at 705-636-1474. Our office hours are 9.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. We require a deposit by cheque, money order, Visa, Master card, or Pay pal. This can be done through our Pay now button or phone.
Granite Ridge Campground requires 14 days notice for refund of deposit minus the $20 cancelation fee. Less than 14 days 1 night fee will be charged. Less than 48 hrs no refund. 3 night long weekends are non-refundable.
This is a cash or visa deposit on the site that is refundable on departure provided our rules are followed and site is left clean and there is no damage. (Trees cut, table marked, garbage along trees line etc).
Our check in time is between the hours of 2.00 p.m. and 10.00 p.m. (11.00 p.m. on long weekends). If your arrival time is early please let us know as the office does not open until after 1.00 p.m. on week days. There is an early arrival charge. If you are arriving later than 10.00 p.m. let the office know ahead of time. Please remember the gate is locked at 11.00 p.m. Do not head out if you can’t make it by 11.00 p.m. There is a fee if we have to wait for you. Please remember not to speed as tickets are not a good way to start your holiday.
The gate is locked each night between the hours of 11.00 p.m. and 8.00 a.m. If you need to leave early in the morning let us know the night before and we will give you the code to get out. For more information on hours see #6.
Yes we have a sand beach on Himbury Lake, we also have the Magnetawan River running through the park. The river does not go into our lake, but goes into a chain of lakes.
No we do not have a pool, but have a beautiful sand beach on a spring feed lake.
The lake is about 100 acres.
You can bring a motor boat , for fishing and water skiing. Your boat must be registered at time of booking. We only let a few boats in per day. If you show up with an unregister boat we might be at our limit and you will not be able to use it in our lake. Our lake is about 100 acres and large speed boats are not permitted. You must have your Boater Licence, this includes electric motors.
No they are not permitted in our lake.
The fishing is good. The fish you will find in our lake and river are: small and large mouth bass (river and lake), pike (river and lake), pickerel (lake), speckled trout (river), and a small amount of lake trout (lake). A fishing licence can be purchased at Rickwards Motors in town 3 km up the road from us. You cannot take a boat in the river, canoes only, the depth varies from a few feet to 40 feet. We rent canoes. Yes you can bring an ATV but you must be over the age of 18 and have a licence. You are not permitted to drive in the park. Rickwards Motors sells passes for the Algonquin West ATV Club official trails. You may drive slowly in and out of the park. Ask us for a full set of ATV rules. You must register your ATV at time of booking.
No, these are not permitted in the park.
Yes you can have campfires. The only time you cannot have a fire is when there is a real dry spell and the province puts out a fire ban. Fire rings must never be moved and never left unattended. Fires must be extinguished when retirering for the night. No outside wood permitted in the park. We sell wood at the store.
Yes we have flush toilets and hot showers. No they are not coin operated. We ask that you keep your shower short for the people that may be waiting. We have a washroom building and in the outskirts we have plastic outhouses that are serviced regularly.
Almost all sited have trees on them. We have 175 acres and the seclusion is from low to good. Our No Service sites are more rustic, our pull through RV sites have a tree or two. See our picture page.
Yes we have plenty of extra parking.
Yes there is, 4 km in the town of Kearney.
Blackflies are commonly present in late May and early June, more so in heavily wooded areas. (For this time of year we have areas that are more open). By dusk they are gone. Computer generated bug reports are not always right. If you are concerned about current conditions please give us a call. Bug spray and Bug hats are available in our store, bug jackets are available at Canadian Tire or Wal-Mart stores. The fishing is always great this time year.
You can choose another site that is available. This many not be possible on long weekends.
Friendly dogs are welcome but must be kept under control and be on a leash. Dogs must not be unattended at any time. You must clean up after your pet. We have an area down by the beach for dogs and there owners. Dogs are not permitted on the main beach. They may run in the field by the office.
We have a night manager for busy weekends and all long weekends that patrols the park regularly.
Yes, but must be in cans or plastic (Absolutely no glass beer bottles).
Just a few suggestions: swim, tan on the beach, canoe, kayak, fish, play beach volleyball, basketball, soccer, horse shoes, walk some nature trials, bring something to float on to go down the river, kids play centre, big sand pit to play in, take pictures, enjoy the wildlife (early mornings), make great BBQ’s, meet new friends, enjoy with old friends, enjoy campfires or just relax.
There is a general store and a LCBO in the town of Kearney. PC, Metro, Price chopper are in Huntsville.
Yes , in the main area campground, radios must be turned way down(no bass) at 11.00 p.m. and off by 12.30 a.m. in other areas music off by 1.00 a.m. May 2-4, festivals and long weekends there may be some exceptions. We are not as strict as family only parks. Please keep this in mind when booking.
We have very stricted recycling rules. All garbage in bags to be picked up and all recyclables in blue barrels for pick up. We can provide a list at office of what is recyclable and not.
